Thank you so much for entrusting your baby’s photos with Nicole VonDette Photography. I am so excited to begin working with you to capture this fleeting time in your baby’s life. On this page you will find all the information you need to prepare for your session as well as some forms that will help me prepare for your session. Please click on both forms below and fill them out prior to your session. If you have any questions or concerns regarding any of the forms, do not hesitate to email me to discuss them further.
Planning for your session
Now that the forms are complete, I will discuss a bit more of what to expect during your baby/cake smash session. and how you can prepare so the session goes as smoothly as possible. We have the option of having the baby/cake smash session in the Canton studio or at an outdoor location. There is also the option of having it in your home for an extra charge. We can discuss which option will be best for you! If you have any questions feel free to call or send me a text message to 781-718-4920.
A typical baby session lasts around 1 hour. I don’t limit your time so we will keep going until your baby is finished. Ideal times are usually in the morning or right after your baby wakes from their morning or afternoon nap. An indoor baby session includes 3-4 sets, so I recommend picking out 3-4 outfits for your session. If at all possible, please send a text message or email with some images of the outfits you have chosen for your session. It makes it easier for me to select sets and plan for your session if I have an idea of the colors your child will be wearing. There are not many rules when it comes to baby clothing. At the bottom of the page I will recommend some of my favorite stores for baby clothing. If you prefer an outdoor session, then we can discuss the best location and time of day through phone or email. Outfit changes are still welcome for outdoor shoots!
For babies under 8 months, I try to do a combination of clothing shots as well as shots of your baby naked for those adorable tushy shots. It is helpful if you have a diaper cover available, but I do have some in studio as well!
Please let me know PRIOR to your session if you are interested in including family photos so I can plan accordingly.
There are 2 options available for the cake smash session. Option 1 includes an outdoor session at a local outdoor location and then we will head back to the studio for the cake smash and bubble bath portion. Option 2 is done completely in studio. It starts with a shorter baby session (detailed above) with 2-3 sets, continues into the cake smash, and ends with a bubble bath.
Please think of a color or theme you would like to use for your cake smash. We will discuss this prior to your session and I will order a coordinating cake and design the cake smash set to match. If you are at a loss for ideas, then I am happy to give some suggestions! I highly recommend giving your baby a cupcake or slice of cake to eat and touch prior to the session. Most babies are unsure of the smash cake if they have never touched and eaten cake before. Please have small dry finger foods such as cheerios or puffs available for your session. These ALWAYS come in helpful when we need a distraction and are also helpful to stick in the cake for timid babies.
The best clothing for the cake smash sessions are those that show a lot of skin. You will want to choose a cake smash outfit that compliments the cake smash colors. Diaper covers, rompers, summer dresses, bathing suits, tutus, leg warmers, and bow ties all look adorable. Etsy is a great place to look for great cake smash outfits/accessories. Remember, it will get messy!
After the cake smash, I offer a fun bubble bath. I have bucket that we will fill with a few inches of water and some bubbles for your baby to play in. The bubble bath is done directly on the cake smash set. Please let me know prior to your session if you do not want to include the bubble bath.
One final tip: The cake smash sessions can get very messy. Make sure to bring a spare change of clothes for you to wear during the cake smash because you most likely will end up covered and I would hate to have your nice clothes ruined!
What to Wear
I recommending planing a mix of fun clothing as well as timeless simple neutral color clothing. Below are some of my favorite shops for baby clothes. There are both pricier options as well as less expensive options included.
